Portugal’s strategic response to Brexit: enduring Europeanisation?

Portugal is an often neglected country in the literature on small European states and one which significantly exposed to effects of Brexit. While being a core EU member, has historic alliance with United Kingdom, sharing it Atlanticist outlook. Drawing states, New Institutionalism Europeanisation, this article deals Brexit Portugal’s strategy. More specifically, examines country’s coping strategies vis-à-vis Brexit, underlying drivers these diplomatic responses, as well their implications for Europeanisation Portuguese foreign policy. It argued that hedged its bets balance firm commitment, protection important ties UK strong NATO engagement. In so doing, exhibited enduring but limited policy even more cautiously pragmatic than past.
